Windsor to Winchester -27 May (night ride)

Ride leader: Titus

The route is 60 miles of rolling countryside, with very limited bailout options.  This may suit the more experienced night riders, but won't be for everyone.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have spotted that the start point is Windsor Castle.  Though not the Southbank, Windsor can easily be reached by train either direct from Waterloo to Windsor Riverside or from Paddington via Slough to Windsor Central (Oystercard to Slough and a two mile cycle to the start).  Starting in Windsor allows us to avoid the busy and unpleasant roads of West London

We will start under ramparts of the Castle and head down the hill to the Thames and westwards. Within a few miles we will be out into the countryside of Berkshire with the moon and sights and sounds of the darkness to distract us as we skirt the southern limits of Reading and head south to Basingstoke where we'll visit the 24 hour MacDonald’s. Though not ideal it will be warm and perfect for a small group.

When we leave the half way stop we initially traverse Basingstoke before we start the most challenging climb of the ride. Once over the crest we enter the delightful Candover Valley as we head to New Alresford and onwards to Winchester over the lovely rolling countryside around Itchen Abbas.

Once we arrive in Winchester we'll head to the local Weatherspoon for breakfast and maybe for a beer or two.

Registration will open nearer the date.
