Windsor to Winchester - 27 May (night ride)

Ride leader: Titus

Registration will be limited to 20 Riders due to limits at the half way stop so Register quickly to avoid disappointment.

The route is 65 miles of rolling countryside, with very limited bailout options.  This may suit the more experienced night riders, but won't be for everyone.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have spotted that the start point is Windsor Castle.  Though not the Southbank, Windsor can easily be reached by train either direct from Waterloo to Windsor Riverside or from Paddington via Slough to Windsor Central (Oystercard to Slough and a two mile cycle to the start).  Starting in Windsor allows us to avoid the busy and unpleasant roads of West London

We will start under ramparts of the Castle and head down the hill to the Thames and westwards. Within a few miles we will be out into the countryside of Berkshire with the moon and sights and sounds of the darkness to distract us as we skirt the southern limits of Reading and head south to traverse Basingstoke before we start the most challenging climb of the ride.

Once over the crest we make our way towards Medstead where Chris will welcome us into his home for some food and warmth.

As we head out again we should be seeing the sun rising behind us as we head west towards Alresford and the lovely rolling countryside around Itchen Abbas on our way to Winchester. Once we arrive in Winchester we'll head to the local Weatherspoon for breakfast and maybe for a beer or two.

Important note. Our half way stop will be Chris's home and hence the limited number of riders.   So he is not out of pocket if people cancel at the last minute or don't show up for the ride at all, we are asking for a non-refundable pre-payment of £7.   For this you will get unlimited hot drinks and a sandwich -  and something sweet. All profits will be going to charity.

Please send your payment to either:

  • THE FRIDAYS CYCLING CLUB (FNRTTC), sort code 30-98-97, account number 40385560

  • or via Paypal (but please do this as 'friends and family' to minimise charges) and send to fridaynightridetothecoast@gmail.com

Whichever option you use it is essential you include your name as it appears on your registration and the ride you are registering for (e.g. Joe Bloggs, London-Whitstable).    Your registration for the ride will not be complete until payment has been received.
