London to Cambridge - 20 August (night ride)

Ride leaders: Claire and Nick

Starting at midnight from under Waterloo Bridge on the Southbank in front of the British Film Institute, we will exit London heading north for a change, up through the exotic parts of Hackney, before exchanging the street lights of London for the reflected light bouncing off the eyes of the deer roaming around Epping Forest.

After navigating the quaint villages of Essex, we’ll arrive at our halfway stop, Birchanger Services.  Suitably refreshed, it’s then more gentle miles past ancient castles and country houses to arrive in Cambridge for a well-earned breakfast.

In total, it’s 66 miles with not a lot of climbing (nothing above 5% - honest!), and near enough flat for the last 15 miles.

Heading back, there, are approximately five trains an hour back to London (Kings Cross or Liverpool Street), taking between 50 minutes or 1 hour 25 mins depending on the route.  There are also trains north via either Peterborough or Kings Lynn and east towards Ipswich or Norwich.
