London to Brighton - 30 June (night ride)

Ride leader  Adrian says:

One of the original Friday Night Ride destinations, and definitely a classic not to be missed.  Our Brighton ride has everything and for some of you it’ll be the highlight of the year.  This ride is ideal for people who have not experienced a night ride before, and who might be apprehensive about the pace etc.  It's usually a popular ride, and you can expect a lot of fellow riders on the road, many of whom will be night riding for the first time. It's an ideal ride to cut your night riding teeth on.

After we escape London, we’ll drop off the North Downs on small lanes before arriving at our half way stop, the superb 1st Burstow scouts “hut” in Horley - which we call ‘The Edifice’ because it’s magnificent and ideal for us.

Then we come to the main event - Ditchling Beacon. Some of us will be quite happy to walk it, others have travelled from far away places specifically to ride up this legendary piece of Sussex tarmac.

After pausing to admire the views, we’ll head down into Brighton. We pass a speed camera. Sometimes we make it flash.

Important note. Our half way stop at the scout hall is manned by volunteers who will be getting out of their warm beds to make sure we are fed and watered.   So that they are not out of pocket if people cancel at the last minute or don't show up for the ride at all, we are asking for a non-refundable pre-payment of £7.   For this you will get unlimited hot drinks and a sandwich -  a selection will be available - and perhaps a banana or something sweet.

Please send your payment to either:

  • THE FRIDAYS CYCLING CLUB (FNRTTC), sort code 30-98-97, account number 40385560

  • or via Paypal (but please do this as 'friends and family' to minimise charges) and send to fridaynightridetothecoast@gmail.com

Whichever option you use it is essential you include your name as it appears on your registration and the ride you are registering for (e.g. Joe Bloggs, Lon-Brighton).    Your registration for the ride will not be complete until payment has been received.

The refreshment fee will be refunded if we have to cancel the ride due to rail strikes.

To whet your appetite, check out the 2021 ride report.

Registration is now closed.
