The Fenland Fling: 4 - 11 June 2021
NOTE: New dates 4 - 11 June
None of us can predict what we may or may not be allowed to do in the coming months, but with blinkered optimism here’s something to anticipate in late spring. Everything is still at the planning stage, so please don’t make any reservations.
Ride Leader Nick 'Saddlesore' says:
"I’m proposing a one week tour of Fenland, about 100km most days. There are almost no hills, and the few which can’t be avoided are not steep or long. There may be wind, which can be relentless and soul-destroying. In fact, there will be wind. The route is ‘on road’, with some cycleway, though I have standards to maintain, so can’t guarantee not to end up in a ploughed field.
"We will proceed at the customary Fridays relaxed pace, with leader, waymarkers, TEC’s and all-upper each day. There will usually be a morning coffee stop, lunch stop and afternoon stop. This depends on what is open, but we will stop for lunch regardless, even if it’s a picnic in a lay-by.
"This is a daytime tour, and I don’t do early mornings.
"The detailed route will not be published, as it might change at any time (or I may go wandering). We will meet each morning at a specified location, and will leave promptly at the agreed time. You may join us for just part of the Tour, but you still need to register.
"Everyone must be a paid-up member of The Fridays and also of CUK, LCC or British Cycling.
"You can stay where you want, you can camp. Accommodation is down to you. Just turn up on time.
You can come with a tandem, recumbent, folder, whatever. If you bring an electric bike, you must be self-reliant for charging. Accompanying vehicles are not encouraged."
