Cambridge to King's Lynn - 23 July (night ride)
Ride Leader: Claire
Almost Dutch. From the Greens of Cambridge across Fenland, a vast watery landscape of rivers, peat beds and marshes. The major climb - the only climb - is all of 26 metres above sea level to The Ship of The Fens, Ely Cathedral, followed by our first break. On along canal banks with sodium-lit crop picking to Wisbech and a second stop. The final leg passes the Cathedral of Marshland at Terrington St Clement on our way to West Lynn where a ferry (£1.20) will take us to our arrivée in Kings Lynn.
With regards the ferry, on the West Lynn side, there's a jetty and you need to be able to lift your bike and step down onto the ferry. On the King's Lynn side, there is a short but steep set of steps up to the street. There will be an alternative route round to King's Lynn for anyone who may find this tricky (including those on recumbents or tandems) or indeed, gets seasick. Please let us know on the registration form if you need the alternative route.
A ride of 105km, with just 300m of climbing. And no shelter if there's a headwind.
Important note, our half way stop has a minimum number of people it will cater for, so on this occasion we are asking for a non-refundable pre-payment of £8. For this you will get unlimited hot drinks, cake (a selection) and a hot sausage roll, cheese pasty or steak pasty. A vegan option is available.
Please send your payment to either:
The Fridays bank account: Sort Code 30-98-97, Account number 40385560
Or via Paypal (you MUST use the PayPal 'friends and family' option to avoid charges) to email@example.com
Whichever option you use it is essential you include your name as it appears on your registration and the ride you are registering for (e.g. Joe Bloggs, Camb-KL). Your registration for the ride will not be complete until payment has been received.
Registration is now closed.
